Extreme SEO can either result in extreme success or extreme failure, depending upon how you go about it. Extreme SEO need not necessarily delve into the world of black hat SEO which is a world of deceptiveness and illegality in terms of search engine compliance rules.

SEO can refer to a myriad of various tactics that all have one purpose in common - reaching the top of the search engine rankings. SEO can refer to link building, on page optimization, traffic generation, off page marketing and more.

Link Building
Link building can be achieved in several ways. One method is to simply have a great site that people naturally want to link to. This is the hardest method of all and the one that takes longest to achieve. The next way is to post your link in a subtle fashion on related sites. This can be achieved through commenting on related blogs in your niche, forum signatures and social networking sites whereby you mention your own site in a fashion that does not make you suspect as being the webmaster. Thirdly and most controversially is the buying of incoming links. Google has now stated that buying links can get your website penalized. Of course, Google even with all their seemingly supernatural powers, still can not recognize all paid links as being paid. Often buying links is the only way to obtain links from very high ranking, high page rank authority websites.

Buying Traffic
It is also possible to buy traffic. PPC advertising can be seen as buying traffic but an extreme SEO strategy of buying traffic often includes traffic exchanges and other schemes. Generally these schemes provide low converting traffic and are usually not recommended.

Affiliate Link Cloaking
Although not strictly a form of SEO, affiliate link cloaking has a lot to do with your websites success. If people suspect a funny looking URL link then they may not click it. Cloaking your affiliate URL using various methods like .htaccess, PHP or simple meta redirects you are not blatantly displaying the fact that you are promoting other websites and products.

SEO through Web Hosting
An extreme SEO tactic takes into account web hosting. If you are targeting a particular country, then some people believe that hosting your site in that country, rather than just using a country specific domain name TLD, can have some bearing on your search engine results. This strategy has not yet proven true however it does make sense and is a viable extreme SEO tactic.
